Welcome to The Good, The Bad,
The Obvious, Where I take a gander at the aggregate Fantasy rankings and tell
you who is considered a good value, a bad value, and the obvious picks. Now, this
information will change once pre-season begins so I will revisit the rankings
once we enter drafting season.
The first position I will look at is the QB position. Easily the
deepest position in fantasy, but the most important when it comes to strategy
on draft day.
The Obvious
You might be wondering why the obvious picks are first. Well,
because they are obvious, and need to be taken out of the way as soon as
possible. As of right now, I believe there are only two obvious QB's that
should be drafted in the first 4 rounds.
Aaron Rodgers (Current rank: 1) - There
really isn't much to be said about Aaron Rodgers as a fantasy QB. If he is on
your team, then you have an immediate advantage over everyone else in your
league at the QB position. Unless he breaks his collarbone again (Still
butt-hurt over this) you will most likely be in the playoffs with A-Rod as your
QB. There have only been 4 seasons where Rodgers's hasn't reached the 300-point
plateau, His first year as a starter, 2 years where he was injured, and the
year he lost Jordy Nelson. Granted Nelson is gone this year and he is still
healing from the injury last year. But there is no one, save Bell, who is as
much of a sure thing then Aaron Rodgers. Set. Forget. Win.
Russell Wilson (2) - An obvious pick
as long as you can make it through the Seahawks notorious slow starts. Wilson
Has proven himself to be an adept passer who can also use his legs to pick up
first downs. And first downs are a QB's best friend. Averaging just over 500
yards a season, that's an extra 3 points a game just from running the ball.
Never mind he threw 34 touchdowns last year and for almost 4,000 yards.
Unfortunately, with Graham gone, his TD's are likely to take a dip. For QB's
though, he has a safe of a floor as anyone.
The Bad
These are QB's whose price
tags are a little too high for me this season.
Tom Brady (3) - As a Patriots fan, this one
hurts a lot. Lately in mock drafts he has been going in the 4th or 5th round
and for a 40+ QB on a team that's issues belong on TMZ and not ESPN. He has 4
more games to go without his favorite WR and hasn't broken 300 fantasy points
since 2013. In his defense, he would have done so if he didn't get suspended
for 4 games 2 years ago. Tom Brady is the goat but everything that has come out
this season has me worried, there's no more chip on his shoulder, he's more
interested in his family and fun then winning football anymore. He is
absolutely not worth the high price tag. May God have mercy on my soul.
Ben Roethlisberger (10) - I
have a secret for you, come closer, closer. You ready? Big Ben is the most
overrated fantasy QB of all time. Phew, now that I got that off of my chest, I
can tell you that Ben has only once scored over 300 points in fantasy football,
and is currently the tenth ranked QB. Now, it's not his fault he is overrated,
it's the people who think having the best skill positioned players make you a
great QB. It doesn't BTW because Big Ben has been playing with one of the best receivers
of all time and Best RB's and still stinks to high heaven. Let's not forget
that he is absolutely abysmal on the road so you better have a backup QB to go
along with him.
The Good
As of right now, there are 2 QB's who I am willing to wait and get
later in drafts.
Phillip Rivers (14) - Now I'm going to
sound contradictory in this part, but I have to mention that Rivers hasn't had
a 300-point season ever. With that being said, he has been ridiculously
consistent and can always be taken into the double digit rounds each year. A
friend of mine religiously drafts him and honestly, he never thinks twice about
it. Losing Hunter Henry is going to hurt Rivers, especially in the red zone,
but the price for him is cheap and most definitely worth waiting for. I'll
bolster my depth over taking Big Ben a few rounds before.
Matt Ryan (16) - Matt Ryan being ranked below
Big Be, Jimmy G, Jameis Winston, Jared Goff, and even gimpy Andrew Luck blows
my mind. He had a down year last year, fine, but to completely write him off is
silly. The last time he was written off was two years ago in which he became
the MVP of the NFL. This is his second year in an offense and last time he was
2 years into an offense, he was the best pick up of the year. Don't let it
happen again. Draft literally every other position before selecting Matt Ryan
in the 14th round and I guarantee you'll have one of the best teams in your
league come December.
